- What is the purpose of an Opening Sequence: An Opening Sequence typically includes or begins with the opening credits and helps establish the setting and tone of the program. It may consist of live-action, animation, music, still images, and or graphics. In some films, the title sequence is preceded by a cold open.
- What is the difference between Opening credits and a Title sequence: The difference between Opening Credits and a Title sequence is that the Opening Credits are the names of the cast and crew, producers, studios, etc. These opening credits are given a standalone 'sequence' or a series of shots created specifically to present them, we call this a title sequence.
- What techniques can be employed in an opening sequence: The style, music, imagery, typography, and text animation of the opening sequence all work together to create a brilliant fusion between graphic design and filmmaking. A good sequence title sequence consists of three things. These are: - High expectations, these are ones that look good and leaves the audience more than interested in the film. One that puts the audience into a sequence where they want to watch the film and find out what happens. It takes you into the film interestingly.
- Research a modern thriller and a Hitchcock thriller of your choice to use as examples: The Modern-day film I have chosen to research is, Bourne Identity that of which we watched in class. This film's opening sequence initially starts by showing us the key themes of the use of color. In this film, the color Red and Blue, it shows this with the use of the dark blue hue shown throughout the start of the film. We also are introduced to our main character in a horrific way as we see that he is lying in the sea, most probably dead. All these things are shown throughout the opening sequence of the movie, setting the tone of the movie as suspenseful. The Hitchcock film that I am researching is Vertigo, which we will be watching in class soon. The opening sequence of this film consists of a person. Only parts of the face of this person is visible to us as Hitchcock transitions from different parts of her face, then introduces a spiral that is spinning around and around, setting the scene for us in that we will later find out the film is about being afraid of spirals/heights. Both these Opening sequences introduce each film in different ways. The Bourne Identity film introduces the film by using clips in the movie as part of the opening sequence, whereas the Hitchcock film uses text animation and graphic designs in their opening sequence.

This is a great start to the assignment but really lacking details and examples from the text in terms of CONTRASTING the techniques.
This post needed visuals and a more detailed breakdown of those opening sequences.
