Sound helps us as an audience gain a better audience gain a better understanding of the story line shown throughout the short clip, this is seen through the Non-diegetic and Diegetic sound. When the clip starts we hear the diegetic sound of the hospital, as everyone is going about their day. This is abruptly stopped with dialogue when the two men talk to each other, here the man standing guardian the door is keeping watch and making sure that only women enter, when the two men talk we see that there is a bit of confusion shown through the tone of the man's voice as he asks “well, why not?”. It is here that a woman walks in and the man asks again “but she can go in?”. There is then also the diegetic sound of the woman all walking into the hallway area, there is dialogue when two women inquire about why they have to meet where they are meeting at the moment, when another lady abruptly interrupts them and says “yes, that a patient needs us, she needs all of us”.
There is the diegetic sound when all the women gather together and line up against the wall, waiting to see what or who they are gathering up for. We hear through the lady’s tone when she says “are you ready?” that there has been a relationship that has built between the two women, and we see that the doctor cares about the patient, and almost knows the struggle that the patient has been through or is going through. We see that there are going to be either some disadvantages or advantages to the operation that is about to take place, and we see this through the deep breaths that both the doctor and the patient takes. The diegetic sound then changes to soft music that creates meaning and representation to the film, especially when the patient begins to cry and replies “yes” in response to the doctor. There is meaning behind the lyrics of the song being played in the background which links to the scene that is taking place. It then switches back to the Diegetic sound of the hospital bed being wheeled through the hallway and into the operation area, and the Music fades off as the two doctors interact with each other.
Through Mise-en-scene we can tell by the costumes and the props shown who are the doctors and who are the nurses per say. With the use of Make-up we as an audience are able to see the scars that are on the patient, these represent that something bad has happened to her. This makes us aware of her vulnerability at this point. We then see through the solemn look of care and sadness on each of the women's faces as she is being pushed through the hallway that it is something that all women are almost afraid of. The looks on their faces is almost as if they are also in awe of the strength of the patient. Through the setting of the short film, we also see that the film is being set in a hospital. In the first scene we see that by the few people that walk through the double doors.
The camera plays a vital role in showing us all the representational roles in the short film. The camera pans across from a wall out into the open where the man stands and guards the door while a lady walks in. The camera then changes to an over shoulder shot and pans inward a little bit as a man tries to walk in but then is stopped by the man guarding the door. The camera then stops and is a wide shot while watching the two men talk to each other. The Camera closes-up on the man trying to get through the door, and over-shoulder shots the man standing guard over the door. The camera goes back to a wide-shot and Pans as it follows behind the lady who is walking, followed by another side pan as the woman inquiring about what is happening walks to go and talk to another lady.
The editing helps create slow paced scenes that also help achieve Over shoulder shots, transitions and helps show the relationship between the doctors and the patient.
