- Brainstorm:
- Questions:
1. Who do you introduce character-wise and why?
For my Characters I have created a, Mother, Daughter and a Kidnapper.
2. Where do you set your film scene and why?
3. What iconography and symbolism will you include?
- Rationale:
Storyline: A Kidnapper watches a child at a fun-fair. The parent and child are separated. The kidnapper moves in for the abduction.
My very first scene is, the Mother and Girl walk into Fun-fair, kidnapper not far behind them, his money on the little girl.
I will express this on 1-3 storyboard squares. 1. Of the little girl and the mother walking into the fair, past the kidnapper. 2. The kidnapper watching. 3. The kidnapper walking in from behind.
Firstly there will be a wide-shot, with a view of the mother and girl walking toward the fair, with the kidnapper in the foreground. Then as the mother and child walk into the fair, the camera will zoom into the kidnapper watching from afar.
Then there will be a medium shot of the kidnapper walking in, going into a different direction but still closely watching the mother and daughter.
The sound will just be the diegetic sound of the fun-fair.
The second scene is of the mother watching the child on one of the funfair rides, and then the phone rings.
I will express this on 3 storyboards. 1. Of the mother watching the daughter on the Ferris wheel. 2. The mother watching the daughter as the ride proceeds. 3. Then a shot of when her phone rings.
First, there will be a medium shot of all the parents watching their children get on the ride, then it zooms into the mother watching.
Then a close-up of her purse where her phone is in and is ringing.
Here the sound changes, the diegetic sound of the fun-fair fades out, and the sound of her phone ringing takes over.
The third scene is where the mother gets distracted by a work phone call. She is busy on the phone when the abduction begins.
I will express this in 3-4 storyboards. 1. Of the Mother answering the phone. 2. Of the mother walking away to attend to the call. 3. Daughter Ferris Wheel ride finished.
I will do a closeup as the mother answers the phone. The shot will be a high-angle, hand-held shot of the mother's movements.
The scene will then change to the daughter walking off the Ferris wheel. The camera will be a hand-held, close-up shot.
Daughter looking around for her mother, mother nowhere to be seen. Hand-held shot spinning around daughter as she looks around.
Then the kidnapper comes, creates a conversation with the little girl, and takes her this will be a Canted-hand-held-mid-shot of what's happening.
The sound will be a Non-diegetic sound of a suspenseful soundtrack.
- I will express this on one board. 1. of the mother's facials.
- There will be an extreme close-up shot of the Mothers Facials. Hand-held camera following the mother's every movement.
- Show the phone call being ended.
- I will express this on 2-4 storyboards.
- Shaky-Hand-held movement as the mother is desperately searching for the daughter.
- When she sees the man and daughter, there will be a slow-mo of the mother running and screaming, a slow voice-over of the screaming. Shifting to the man pushing the girl into the black van. With the Mothers screaming as the sound in the background still playing.
- Then Fade to black and finished. When it fades to black, the sound of the mother screaming will still continue and then slowly fade out.

Well done. This is a thorough job and you display solid knowledge of how to incorporate thriller genre conventions to be able to make a scene suspenseful.
Please do the following;
- Upload images so they display correctly
- Re-upload storyboard photos so they are the correct way around
